Natural wine in Napa Valley is easy to discover when you know where to look. Dive into Napa’s natural wine scene at these wineries, tasting rooms, and bottle shops.
This list includes Napa Valley natural wineries, and wine bars and bottle shops that also offer natural wine tasting experiences in Napa. If you love natural wine and low-intervention wine, exploring unusual grape varieties, and bottles of glou glou wine, these are the best places to visit.
Matthiasson Wines
Low-intervention and natural wine lovers adore Steve Matthiasson’s wines. Matthiasson’s philosophy about wine making and farming stands in contrast to much of Napa Valley. This boutique, family-owned winery has full control over the vineyards where they source their grapes, and the results of Steve’s organic farming methods can be seen from the vineyard to the glass.
Book a tasting at the winery for a master class in minimal intervention wine and organic farming techniques.
TIP: Matthiasson’s Wine Club is one of the best wine clubs in Napa Valley. Joining gives you access to highly allocated bottles of Matthiasson’s Ribolla Gialla, Falanghina, and Schioppettino. Members can also purchase Jill’s Matthiasson’s famous heritage peach jam.
Location:
Matthiasson Winery, 3175 Dry Creek Rd, Napa, CA 94558
Ashes & Diamonds

Ashes & Diamonds is the only winery in Napa Valley that produces a zero-zero wine. Kashy Khaledi, a former music executive, owns Ashes & Diamonds, and the wines are made by Steve Matthiasson and Diana Snowden-Seysses. The vibe at the winery is cool and trendy, without being pretentious, snobby, or a luxury tourist trap peddling mass produced wine. This is one of the few Napa Valley wineries to embrace experimentation, attract a younger customer who doesn’t want to drink their parents’ Cabernet, and produces high quality, old-school Napa wines in the process.
TIP: Ashes & Diamonds is a 5 minute drive from Matthiasson. You can easily visit both of these producers on the same day. In addition to being a great source for natural wine in Napa Valley, Ashes & Diamonds’ Cabernet Franc is one of the best in California.
Location:
Ashes & Diamonds Winery, 4130 Howard Ln, Napa, CA 94558
Benevolent Neglect Wines
We cannot talk about natural wine in Napa Valley without mentioning Benevolent Neglect wines. This small batch winery is one of the most talked about in Napa’s small, but growing minimal intervention wine scene. Like many of the other winemakers on this list, Benevolent Neglect co-owner and winemaker Matt Nagy likes working with some rare California grapes. Past and current vintages have included bottlings of Counoise, Riesling, Gamay, Vermentino, Syrah (whole cluster), and Greco di Tufo.
TIP: Benevolent Neglect’s Counoise Rosato is super crusuhable. It was one of my favorite bottles of 2023.
Location:
Benevolent Neglect: 1417 2nd Street, Napa, CA 94559
Tank Garage Winery

Tank Garage Winery’s Calistoga tasting room is buzzing on the weekends and draws wine drinkers who want a friendly, laid back alternative to expensive Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon tastings. During a tasting at Tank Winery, you may try a fizzy Falagnhina pet nat, natural orange wine, a small batch carbonic red, or a funky white wine. Winemaker Bertus Van Zyl, works with everything from Trousseau Gris, Grenache, Négrette, Valdiguié, Orange Muscat, and Barbera.

Cadet Wine Bar

Cadet Wine Bar is where the cool kids in downtown Napa hangout. If you’ve ever visited Napa’s famous Bottle Rock music festival, this is the place that hosts the concert’s hottest after-parties. Low-intervention wine producers like Carboniste, Rootdown, RAEN, Foradori, and Phelan Farm are all featured on the wine list.
One thing to keep in mind if you stop by Cadet for a glass of natural wine, the crowd here definitely skews younger as the night wears on, but it’s great people watching and lots of fun.
TIP: On the weekends, Cadet stays open until 1 am, making it one of the few bars in Napa to stay open past 11 pm.
Location:
Cadet Wine Bar: 930 Franklin St, Napa, CA 94559
Compline Wine Shop

Finding orange wine in Napa Valley is like finding a needle in a haystack, but downtown Napa’s Compline Wine Shop has a Ribolla Gialla from Gravner, and a Ramato style Pinot Grigio from Mélanie Pfiste. Unheard of producers to discover in Cabernet saturated Napa. These gems are available alongside local winemakers like Arnot-Roberts, Pax Wines, and Jolie-Laide.
The other great thing about the Compline Wine Shop is the diversity of the selection. They carry a ton of rare and unique grape varieties like Aligoté, Mondeuse, Assyrtiko, Teroldego, Falanghina, Picpoul Blanc, and Fiano.
Go to Compline for natural wines, low-intervention wines, and bottles of cool, hard-to-find grape varieties.
